Racial Stereotyping of Obama Figure in Townsend Display
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what does this picture say about those behind the display spotted in front of the Mustang Hotel in Townsend, MT. Note the visual racial stereotyping of the Obama figure. (It’s the pumpkin head spray-painted with black on the right.) Note his broad, toothy smile, reminiscent of racist caricature of African-Americans from the segregationist era. Compare it to the smiling face of the “Biden” figure on the left. Note that this is what we’re up against.
Good grief – you see racism in EVERYTHING, don’t you? There’s no “good” way to accurately any person, of any color, using a scarecrow – they ALL look like cartoonish figures.
These dumb crackers have way too much time on their hands. It’s not even October yet, fer gawd’s sake!
I don’t know what to make of this, but if I were going to construct a caricature of Obama, I would likely do so by drawing a black man with a wide smile. He is, after all, a black man with a wide smile.

These people are not only intellectually bankrupt, they’re lousy visual artists as well.

Ok I got to be honest here now I think everyone here knows Im a Democrat, so no question there and I have friends of all races and sexual orientations and genders and ages, but maybe its just the picture but I dont see anything racist in this photo It looks like a fall or Halloween display, I dont get it thats all

As a former Democrat, you and this blog are a perfect example of why I’m not a current Democrat. You’re the one who noticed a “toothy smile.” I didn’t know black people had a “toothy smile.” I thought they smiled pretty much like anyone else. Yep, black people generally have darker skin than white people. That might be why the pumpkin head was painted another color. Is it bad to depict people of other races as they are, or should we HIDE the fact that they are another color? I thought you were tolerant people. Apparently, it’s not okay to be black or have a toothy smile in 2010. Come to think of it, I have sort of a toothy smile. Oh no, am I turning black?!?!?! See what I’ve learned about race from a liberal in only one short, poorly written blog?
If any black people are reading this (I doubt that any are dumb enough to waste their time)run for your lives from these Democrats! First they tried to keep you enslaved, then they founded the KKK and began lynching you, then they made you sit at the back of the bus, then they tried to block the civil rights act of 1964 (which passed as a result of Republican members of Congress)and now they want to keep you slaves; fiscal slaves not physical slaves.
You Democrats will pay the piper and pay him well in November and again in 2012. The American people finally see through you. What will you begin calling yourselves next? Liberal, communist, socialist and progressive are all dirty words now. I’m sure you’ll think of something that sounds innocent enough.

The only ones who didn’t disrespect you were the ones hiding in Canada.
And no, I don’t know any CONSERVATIVES who avoided military service. (see Bill Clinton) Or had someone shoot them in the backside to get a Purple Heart like John Kerry.

Yeah, it may have racial overtones, but the intent is not undeniably racist…plus, it’s just some random display. Even indisputable proof of public racism by a random citizen in Townsend isn’t that surprising. It does say that the owners of that hotel are probably assholes, if they are the ones who put it up.
Also, don’t they realize that the dollar is too strong compared to other currencies, not too weak, and that inflation is actually excessively low? No, they don’t, because they don’t understand economics except as explained by Glenn Beck.
I’ll tell you one place I won’t be staying and spending any money if I ever have a reason to go to Townsend (such as fishing.)

By far the most hilarious, and perhaps insightful piece of the display, is that he has labeled his Chevy truck as the United States of America. Nothing says freedom more than a 2 ton, v-8 piece of metal that burns an imported product.
I wonder what he would have said if the Obama admin had let GM go belly up and he could no longer find parts or service for his pickemuptruck.
You have to give him and other Republicans credit though, they’re working hard to keep Montana NUMBER ONE!!!! In suicides, that is.
With mental health services and especially programs for children being first on the chopping block, yesterday we heard Mr. Skees describe all the billionaires he knows who live in Whitefish, who could well afford to donate to such worthy causes. And he agreed mental health services need funding, so his idea for how to get the funding is this: get the churches to provide volunteers to beg the rich folks for philanthropic donations.
I can’t wait to hear what other innovative and effective solutions he’ll come up with to address the other issues facing our great state.
Looked like he might have been signing up for some lessons from Verdell Jackson after the meeting out in the parking lot, though. Verdell could teach him a lot—their message is pure and doesn’t change, Skees just needs to learn to say it in a way that won’t embarrass their base so much.
