Too Much Eggnog
‘Tis the season for Christmas cards, full of seasons greetings, prayers and wishes for Christmas and the coming year, photos of families and paintings of snowy landscapes and holly trees and Santa and….political updates? about a potential campaign that the sender of the card might be contemplating?
Denny Grinchberg, perhaps having had one too many cups of eggnog (or just nog), sent out a Christmas card yesterday which reads (paraphrasing) “I’m still weighing my options for a run for something other than Congress in 2012, and p.s. merry christmas from my wife and family.” It is simply a bizarre greeting card from a politician, wildly inapprpriate and tasteless, almost to the point that it looks like a gag.
But it’s not, and it’s certainly not making Steve Daines or Rick Hill laugh. Daines is the wealthy Bozemanite who has declared he is running for U.S. Senate, and Rehberg’s Christmas greeting is a lump of coal in Daines’s stocking, because will likely have to bow out if Denny takes the Senate plunge. Hill, of course, is the once-upon-a-time-philanderer/impeachment voter and Helena landlord who has alrady served in Congress, but wants to be Governor and is trying to get the Repubican establishment behind him. In a guberntorial primary, Rehberg would preempt him as well.
If Hill and Daines were raising money before, they ain’t raising it no more, not until Rehberg follows up his Grinchy card with a definitive announcement saying what he intends to do. It’s hard to imagine that Rehberg would do this if he hadn’t already decided to run for something other than the House in 2012. But who knows.

Christmas cards from politicians are so tacky. I can’t believe people still do this. From Rehberg, I guess I’d believe anything. He is one tacky mo-fo.
I think Rehberg is a dick, a bigot and a hateful man, , I was just in his office in Helena and made the statement that “Not everyone in this country is a Christian” the workers response was “Thats ashame everyone should be”. Not only am i offended by his vote against the LGBT Community, but i’m also offended over that statement as a Jewish Man! How the “F” did we let this man get re-elected?!
Right now Denny is working his tail off to kill the Tester wilderness sellout bill. You’d be smart to set aside petty grievances and help him out.
cowpie-if you are gona follow your own rules for this blog, then you need to block this mr. mike, who is anonymously saying things without attribution or substantiation. buncha nonsense.
don’t play that game, I was there, i know what was said
Nice post today Cowpie,
Personally I didn’t get one of Rehberg’s Christmas greetings but I suppose that’s because I don’t give him campaign contributions. I’m sure I’ll see a copy of the card, however the Congressman’s Christmas greetings can’t be any more ridiculious than the ‘baseball trading cards’ with the picture of the Governor and the Mrs. on them that hit the streets this week. Never laughed so hard in my life, there’s ol’ Bobble Head and Mrs. Bobble on these childish looking trading cards that are going to be hawked in our public schools, under the guise of promoting Math and Science. Wonder what that campaign stunt is costing the taxpayers? Excuse me but the only thing these things do is promote Scheister and help keep his name in front of the parents of these unsuspecting kids who will take them home in a backpack for Mom and Dad to find when they’re going through Jr.’s homework assignment. Whatever it takes for Gov. Promote Myself to get the job done, so don’t be throwing rocks at Rehberg when the good Gov. is just as guilty with this latest Public Service Announcement kit. BTW, I have to go dial into the townhall meeting that Rehberg is holding tonight on the Tester Wilderness Bill. See ya’ at the toy store and we’ll trade baseball cards!
Oh geez, you’re a state worker, AREN’T you, Beware I’m Stupid? Come on. Fess up. Put your name up there. Gosh your cowardice is astounding. If you’re gonna criticize your boss, have the nuts to sign your name. Just sayin’.
Aware doesn’t seem that big on education. Not much of a surprise given his not-so-great writing…
Denny with this term will now have served 10years in congress. He has become a very rich man during the time of his service and he has accomplished what exactly?? If Rehberg runs for something other then his safe happy little congressional seat he would either a, be subject to term limits, b, be up on a higher stage and make an a== out of himself, or c, lose. Tester would beat Rehberg hands down. Because Tester will take the gloves off and pound him right into the ground, it would be a real Montana farmer vs a Rolex rancher. Do we want a man that drives tractors or a man that drives a caddliac. Do we want a smart statesman or a drunk politican? Bring it to the people just like that and let me tell you I’d bet the farm on the man from Big Sandy,
I did receive one of these goofy cards and this is exactly what it says: (no need to paraphrase Cowguhl)”There has been plenty of speculation as to what my political future will be. With the significant challenges facing Montana and America, I’m not taking anything off the table in terms of 2012. For now I want to assure you that I’m focused on doing the job Montanans hired me to do.” So yeah, very odd indeed – what’s up Denny? Something on your mind?
Murca NEEDS Dopey Rheburp! As Dopey mentions, we have significant problems that ONLY a man of Dopey’s stature can solve! I feel SO much better knowing that Dopey’s willing to tackle them! We NEED a senator Dopey! Time for Dopey to saddle up and head off to Washington! Only hope is that he don’t fall OFF on the way!….and stay away from boats too. And maybe a designated driver wouldn’t hurt either! But no matter how he gets there, Dopey’s ready and willing to solve our problems!
MrMike: Why is it that tolerance only goes one way with people like you? Rehberg is a bigot for not supporting the Repeal but it’s perfectly acceptable for you to bash his worker for her personal beliefs? It is her right to state her opinion that if conservative values prevailed in this nation that things would be better. Also, the vast majority of Montanans support him in this decision. Not everyone is a Christian, but a lot of Montanans are and wish for our Congressman to reflect our values.
Your nice blog is probably worth a read if anyone results in it. Im lucky i did because now Ive got a total new view of this approach. I didnt realise that this issue was so important so universal. You definitely input it in perspective for myself, thanks for the fantatic material.
