Warburton Admits Abortion Ballot-Measures are Designed for Political Purpose: Did She break The Law?

Wendy Warburton's behavior should be investigatedWendy Warburton, tea partyist legislator from Havre, made the mistake of admitting to Emily Ritter, Montana Public Radio that the reason she has introduced two anti-abortion constitutional amendments is that these two measures, if they appear on the ballot, will “drive Republican voters to the polls,” and thus benefit R candidates in 2012. (Listen to the story here: click “Click to Listen” the story is about 5 minutes and 10 seconds in.)

Putting things on the ballot to drive up turnout is an old trick that the GOP loves, like CI-105, a ballot measure which proposed eliminating a tax that didn’t exist. But the ballot measures are usually put on the ballot by citizen groups or other private interests, which are required to get the signatures from citizens to prove that enough citizens want the measure on the ballot.  The measures Warburton is pushing have failed twice in two years to get anywhere close to the number of signatures necessary.   It takes 49,000 signatures  to place a proposed constitutional amendment before voters.

The Montana code clearly prohibits using government time and facilities for political activity.

Here, a legislator is being open about the fact that she has just wasted the legislature’s time–a significant amount of it, I might add–with a political task assigned to her by GOP operatives, to carry out an electoral strategy.  Someone should probably file a complaint.

Beyond that, does this woman have any sense of appropriateness at all? Some common sense advice to Wendy: when politicians do things for purely political motives, they’re supposed to at least pretend to make up some sort of legitimate policy reason.

  1. Embarrassing

Warburton is an embarrassment to our state. If she wants to live in the Victorian era, she should move to the Flathead and join a commune. I hear Chuck Baldwin and April Gaeddes are looking for white women to breed.Though I don’t know if anyone would be up for the task. Perhaps that’s why she wants to restrict the actions of other women.

This is what happens when they don’t teach Civics for 30 years. We’ve got these people who have no clue about ethics and the way Gov is supposed to work. I remember the first time BUSH/Cheney ignored a congressional subpoena, no one batted an eye, because they had no idea that your not supposed to be able to ignore them. These people think they can do whatever they want. The saddest thing is even if someone brings a complaint she’s just get a slap on the wrist

With the exception of a small group that comments on the “local blog” in support of the 3 nutjobs Havre sent to Helena, I really can’t see Our town wanting to be the ambarassment of the state again. With any luck Wendy and kris will follow Hutton out of state and ply their insane bullshit somewhere else.

Wendy appears to have no shame. I hope the Havre voters have some sense and throw her fat ass out of the legislature next year. The Billings Gazette recently did a poll, 56% of Montanans are against this measure of declaring a fetus as a human and giving it due process rights, they are also against inacting a sales tax, which is being proposed by the Republican legislature. They are for inacting vote by mail, and they are undecided on the nullification of federal laws. So frankly Warpathburton is in the minority on this issue. Because Montana as a whole is a very individualistic state, they do not like the government, be it local, state, federal in their private personal lives. Basically they want a government that provides services effectivly, efficently, and economically, and they want to be left alone, and Wendy and her ilk do not represent that. Also if we do get the vote by mail bill passed, I believe you will have a high turn out on election night, and Wendy’s idea and ideas like the Republican parties idea on CI-105 the non existant tax will become less, because now all you got to do is get people to mail in their ballots. And for people of my generation and for people that are technologically able I would like to see voting by the internet. After all I do my banking online, so if I can trust it with my money, why not my vote?

Isn’t this amazing! We call a child a fetus and claim that the unborn isn’t a victim. I will never ever believe that a child is unwanted! How sad it is to live in a country where its citizens support the murder of its children. Sadly, I was once of that belief, thank God my eyes were open to the utter horror. They call it a choice as if you had a choice to come into this world. I long for the day to read in the papers Roe vs. Wade is overturned. Please pray for the protection of these precious children

Your figure of only only collecting 10,413 signatures for CI-102 is way short of the 35,873 that are reported on the Secretary of State’s website. We actually had enough to qualify and which were certified by the board of elections of the respective counties. It is just that a Democrat Secretary of State found a way to disqualify them. This is politics at it’s best.

We won’t stop until all children are protected or you kill all the pro-life people as well. Abortion is not much different than throwing your children in a volcano as an offering to appease the gods!

If you care about children so much why do you support cutting food stamps and education? Services for women to help them have healthy children and so on. Once a child is born it needs access to healthcare too. To quote Randi Rhodes “Love the Fetus, hate the Child”

Wendy Warburton is a mean, bitter moron. She is exactly the last kind of person one wants making state law. I’m feeling bad for Havre right now, here in Billings, we have McGillvray, Knox, Milburn and Essmann, but at least we don’t have her!

  7. Pogie

I’d love to be able to say this is unbelievable, but with these people, nothing is. Cynical, nasty politics, all under the guise of piety.

Wendy Warpbupin’ is right. It DID take a miracle. It’s GOTTA be a miracle! I mean, this silly, stupid, ignorant fundiwackmentalist moronic woman actually made glen beck appear sane! That’s GOTTA be some divinely inspired stupidity for sure, ’cause is sure ain’t natural! Even FOX news thinks that she’s an imbecile! Amazing. Read.

And the really, really sad part of all this is that even FOX NEWS gets it, but none of our state dailies do! They have given these inbred morons a free pass and free publicity the entire way.

Thanks a LOT, GF Spitoon and all you other worthless b*stard state newspapers! The teawankers are surely pathetic, but YOU guys are even MORE pathetic! You’re complicit, and you should be held accountable.

FOX should include YOU people in the lunacy as being the cowards that fostered, fomented, and aided and abetted the insanity. Hope your corporate masters are proud of you!

And then, you wonder why your business is dying. Good riddance! NO press is better than BAD press.

      • Larry Kralj, Environmental Rangers

p.s. I should add that the Havre Daily article on the Teatards was very good. And they appeared to have NOT backed down when the Teatards started whining. They are the exception.

Too bad that Mike Royko didn’t live long enough to see the Teatard Party. Mike would have known EXACTLY what to call these morons who violate all accepted rules of common decency and civil responsibility. He would have simply called them jerks!

Who would be jerks? Well, someone who introduces a militia bill. JERK!

Someone who moves here from Colo. and gets himself an interview with Anderson Cooper, and then claims “we” Montanans want purity in our system, so we need to see a bither ceritificate! Big FAT JERK!

Someone who wants to hunt with a spear. JERK!

Someone who wants to hunt with a silencer. JERK!

Someone who introduces abortion bills KNOWING that they don’t have a chance, but do it anyway. JERK!

Someone introducing bills about nullification. JERK!

Someone wanting a gold standard for currency. JERK!

Someone REFUSING one hundred and twenty million in fed dollars to help the MOST needy. JERK!

Someone wanting guns in schools and in the capitol itself. JERK!

I’m sorry, but I’m out of time and growing weary, so add your own. But the fact remains, that Royko knew EXACTLY what rude, arrogant, ignorant morons who purposely violate common deceny were. JERKS!

Fundiwactmentalists who try to FORCE their pastor slime’s religeeous wacko beliefs into our laws. JERKS!

    etc. etc.

The Teatard Party consists ENTIRELY of jerks!

Mike, wish you were still here.

Unfortunately, recall in Montana has been utterly gutted by a number of District Judge decisions, as well as one from the Montana Supreme Court. After the lastest Decision by Judge Tucker in Dillon, you effectively have to prove that an official has committed a crime. In fact, in some ways, it is easier to convict an official of a crime than it is to recall an official. Just one more example of how citizen initiatives are treated by legislators and judges in Montana.

I would just like to say that even though these posts were several months ago they are cruel, bitter, and down right hateful. As if Wendy is responsible single handed for the situation our government is in. How ridiculous! I know her personally and she is a genuine, caring, concerned individual who truly believes in what she stands for and does her best to represent her party and the people in her community. I don’t understand how the left wing wants to preach on the soap box of tolerance but at the same time crucify someone who disagrees with them. Let’s grow up people and take personal responsibility for our actions and realize one person didn’t get us into this mess and one person isn’t going to get us out!! Leave Wendy alone! There are far bigger villains in our government than Wendy Warburton from Havre! Good grief.

    • Rob Kailey

I’ll take your tripe comment seriously the first time someone drives a nail through Wendy’s wrist or ankle. Until then, your attempt to martyr her remains hyperbole, and truly stupid.

    • Havre Voter

Warburten is supposed to be representing a moderately democratic district. Instead, she only pushes her own far right ideology. It’s supposed to be about the constituents, remember Wendy?
