GOP Voter Suppression Campaign Escalating, Media Begins to Notice

There was a time when Republicans were at least embarrassed by their efforts to keep likely democratic voters  from the polls. Republican Executive Director and Party Chair Jake Eaton and Erik Iverson were all but drummed out of the state  after their efforts to keep people with address changes (including active service members) from voting in the 2006 election came to light.
Now, its a leading issue across the U.S., and the media are finally taking notice. And even though the measures are so shameful as to be legally dubious, they are moving forward, as Politico reports:

Nonetheless, because of the GOP tsunami in November — Republicans control 21 more state legislative chambers than they did a year ago — the measures are also enjoying more success than they used to. Meanwhile, the unshakable conviction among some Republicans that Obama’s election was a terrible mistake for America lends urgency to the quest to deny him another term.

In Montana, despite the failure of GOP voter suppression efforts in the state legislature, strategically blocked by minority democrats and vetoed by the Governor, the R’s are moving full speed ahead any way they can.  Congressman Rehberg has tapped Erik Iverson, who was GOP chair during the first voter supression attack, to lead his campaign.  We’ll also need to be on the lookout for police  and GOP attorneys placed at minority, low income, and student polling locations.

  1. The track record of Democrats over the last forty–fifty years should be enough to convince intelligent people to avoid electing them to any important office. The problem, of course, is the alternatives are all Republicans.

This is bad shit. VERY bad shit. This is SOUTH AMERICAN fascist shit. This is EXACTLY what the fascists in Latin America have done for a long time. Can we PLEASE call these no good bastards fascists now?

What people in this country don’t understand is that we in this country are NOT immune to the fascist tactics that the CIA and their Pubbie/corporate overlords have been doing in Latin America for the last hundred years or so. They have perfected their techniques down south, and now, they’re bringing their show to the U.S.!

There is NOTHING inherent within our country, its policies, its people, nor system of government that will naturally protect us from the fascists like bush and his dick cheney, Raygun, Negroponte, Oliver North, Kissinger etc. etc. The systems created by these folks are STILL in place!

Democracy itself is anathema to these no good dirty bastards. THAT is why it was brutally repressed throughOUT Latin America wherever it threatened to arise. Any democratically elected government was immediately overthrown for the sake of the corporations beginning with Guatemala in ’54. The repression was bloody, brutal, evil, and perfectly effective. United Fruit became the cutesy sounding Chiquita Banana. Nuthin’ cuter than Chiquita! Too bad that hundreds of thousands had to die for a name change!

Voter repression is a staple of CIA created/supported dictators in L. America. Armed police at polls? Been there, done that. Attorneys? Hell, why not! Cops? Sure. Rent-a-cops standing around looking official? Hell, that’s been done in THIS country for a long time, particularly down south with large Hispanic populations.

In conclusion, much to the objections of Paddy “quitter” Williams I’m sure, I will ask the same question that I asked Paddy and the Dem leadersip some sixteen years ago. Can we please call them fascists now? Busting unions, attacking teachers, attacking the poor and those on government assistance, intimidation at the polls. Well, if no one ELSE will, I’ll call them what they are. They are American fascists, pure and simple. They must be dealt with if we are to have ANY semblance of democracy left.

The next step is the Blackwater dudes to “keep order” at the polls. It’s comin’ to a town near you!

  3. Astounding the ‘Tea Party Taliban’ forgets all those ‘Purple Fingers’ our soldiers and marines died for to allow voting in Iraq and Afghanistan, but when one of those Vets returns to use his GI Bill at a state campus, he or she will be SCREWED by the ‘haters and birthers’ . What a world…….

Excellent point, Pub! The Teawankers give their fellow Americans the purple MIDDLE finger, just as I gave that dumbass Bush as he drove through GF.
