Conspiracy Theorists: The Future of Conservative Politics in Montana
With pamphlets entitled “Communism, Hypnotism, and the Beatles” and “Marxist Minstrels,” Rev. David Noebel made a career of whipping up the conspiracy minded. Though this sounds laughably dated to us, the movement has actually seen a surge since the election of President Obama angered the TEA Party and its birthers. This weekend, Noebel and his unique brand of religious fundamentalist conspiracy theories came to Montana. They were welcomed with open arms.
Former Republican legislator, current birther, and head of the so-called Montana Family Foundation did his best to fuel the revival the conspiracy theory wing of the GOP. Jeff Laszloffy sent out an email alert to his followers (pasted below the fold) about the latest wingnut conference in Billings this weekend.
And so Montana conspiracy theorists were treated to a weekend of lectures from the man who pioneered the belief that, I kid you not,
“rock music was a secret communist plan to make teenagers mentally retarded.”
Laszloffy’s entire email is pasted below the fold. At least its finally public that the leader of the religious right in Montana believes that discussions on why “49% of our young people under the age of thirty prefer Marxism to our current system?” and the secret government “plan to destroy the West” are an important part of the modern conservative movement.

I continue to be amazed at the apathy in our country towards Marxism, many believers really do not know what it is. We have assumed that what we call Communism collapsed with the fall of the U.S.S.R. but actually it just changed hats and mushroomed world wide – and in the U.S.A. This atheistic worldview has been growing in our school systems, government, economic system etc. for a century because scores of well organized, well funded, dedicated groups have pushed it.
If you have grown “sick and tired” of what you see happening in our country,maybe you need to come and take a look at what is the primary source of these issues – along with our apathy and ignorance. And, understand that those attitudes also have been carefully nurtured by the Progressive movement for over a century.
Finally a word about what I consider our most besetting barrier to discipleship, it relates to “priorities” if I may live dangerously and bring up this PC subject - really – about what takes us “CAPTIVE!” Hopefully, we are still teaching our youth the 1st Commandment – ”You shall have no other gods before/beside me.” Yet even the most committed seem to struggle with the “schedules” that are imposed upon uswhether that is work, athletic or recreational interests, other “extra-curricular activities” etc and they are all good. But then we have to make “THE CHOICE” about any given activity. We often chose poorly if I may dare to state my opinion - discipleship often comes in dead last.! And you think our young people are not watching our choices and can not couple that with the commandment?
What has my “lecture” got to do with worldviews? Everything – mostly that our young adults are voting with their feet. They are walking away from our faith at an alarming rate. Take a minute and read this article Six Reasons Young Christians Leave the Church - Barna Group, web page, Sept. 2011 .

David Noebel, once an evangelist with the late Billy Joe Hargis’ scandal-plagued Anti-Communist Christian Crusade, founded Summit Ministries in 1962, holding camp-style conferences for Christian college students.
Now an unaccredited college of its own, boasting additional campuses in Ohio and Tennessee and the hearty endorsement of Focus on the Family’s James Dobson, Summit graduates more than 1,300 students a year — all of them steeped in both Christian “dominionism” (generally, the idea that Christianity should dominate society and politics) and anti-gay politics.
In 1977, while still a member of the conspiracy-minded John Birch Society, Noebel was one of the first to recognize that anti-gay activism could surpass anti-communism as a winning issue for fundamentalists. The U.S. was “rotting within,” Noebel warned, and “homosexuality is only an issue when a nation is rotting morally.” Noebel wrote a book called The Homosexual Revolution and gave anti-gay lectures peppered with slurs like “fruits” and “fairies.”
In 1986, he teamed up with Paul Cameron (see Family Research Institute) and then-Summit instructor Wayne Lutton, currently a leader in the white-supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens, to write Special Report: AIDS, which became one of the most controversial anti-gay tracts ever published.
Pat Buchanan’s blurb on the back cover sums up the spirit of this Special Report: “In a healthy society,” Buchanan writes, homosexuality is “contained, segregated, controlled and stigmatized.”
Bolstered by Cameron’s studies alleging that gay people were intentionally spreading the AIDS virus, Special Report proposes a number of means to “suppress” the outbreak, concluding that it might become necessary to “exile” all “active homosexuals” from America.
Summit continues to preach anti-gay propaganda to the next generation of fundamentalist activists, with Mike Haley, an “ex-gay” campaigner who is Focus on the Family’s “youth and gender specialist” and author of a book called Straight Answers: Exposing the Myths and Facts about Homosexuality, currently on the faculty.
Seems that late evangelist Billy Joe’s “scandal” was that he had the unseemly christian habit of boinkin’ other dudes! Yippers! Seems that he was quite the horndog for same sex. Yikes! This did NOT sit well with Faux Dr. Pastord Nibble! And it has YET to be proven that Pastord Nibble himself also likes to nibble the fellas! But it probably will. A friend of mine, who once had belonged to C.U.T. (Church Universal and Triumphant) told me, when he lived at their compound, that rock music was forbidden since it elicited sinful and even evil emotions in the listener. I also think that you would find quite a few parents nowadays who would have little good to say about today’s rock music. However, their rock music was fine, in the day.
