In 2010, the Empire struck back, hard. The Dark Side destroyed the Democrats, the first piece of sizable revenge exacted by the GOP ever since their Death Star (which had dominated the galaxy for two decades) was destroyed in the span of four years by Schweitzer, Tester, Bullock, McCulloch, Lindeen and Juneau.
The 2010 elections were bought, not won. There were millions of dollars brought in illegally by the GOP’s wealthy friends. Much of it was funnelled in by shell groups from undisclosed sources, and mostly by one particular front group called Western Tradition Partnership. This group is currently being prosecuted civilly in the Montana courts for their dirty 2010 campaign activity. Of the estimated million they brought in, none of it was reported nor the sources disclosed. In other words, we still don’t know who, exactly, owns the GOP-controlled Montana Legislature.
I’m told that the same shady GOP Darth Vaders who operated in 2010 were back at work this cycle, trying to buy themselves victories in city races around the state. They came up empty-handed, humiliated. Like John Sinrud, backed by the Montana Realtors, who wants to build high-rise condos and strip malls on farm land in and around Whitefish. Or Chuck Denowh, who is Rick Hill’s chief advisor but apparently took a hiatus to try to work some of the city races in the Flathead and elsewhere.
They were working hard behind the scenes trying to get victories. It hasn’t been calculated yet how many hundreds of thousands of dollars these losers spent on city commission races around Montana, but not a single Tea party candidate won election in Bozeman, Whitefish, Kalispell, Great Falls, Helena, Billings or Missoula last week.

Hell, I tried like HELL to inform the Spitoon reporters that nearly ALL the reetard Teatards protesting in front of the courthouse were either retired military, welfare farmers, or just ordinary morons suckin’ LARGE off’n Unca Sugartit! We are treated in today’s Spitoon with a story written by some dude name matt goulish or some such, who’s writing about Dopey Reeburp’s HB to give all our national parks to Homeland Screwity. I’m confident Montana voters are of the “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me” state of mind when it comes to the TEA party.
States where the right wingers captured legislatures all got a clear picture and the swing-back is already showing up in Wisconsin, Ohio and even Mississippi.
The question is whether the Democratic party is nimble enough to exploit the situation.
Personally, I like to see an independent elected as the next governor.
@Cowgirl – you have never been accused of being “fair and balanced” and I know it is your intent to never be that.
However, you might have mentioned the dirty tactics of the Main Street Advocacy group in the last election. Sen. Bruggerman and Rep. Ward attempting to influence elections. Perhaps $20k the local branch had to return as an illegal campaign contribution and the $10k that SEIU local 775 gave to the Main Street Advocacy local PAC. And those nice flyers that Ted Dick designed for them to use. And the money spent (check their C-6) on the 13 races they targeted (and lost most of them) “conservatives” and tried to get RINOs elected.
The money flows both directions and you well know it. Deal with it.

Here you can see where SEIU (who was the SEIU local 775 political director then?)donated $10k to the Western Traditional Values PAC a few days prior to the 2010 Primary (after it was determined that Main Street Advocacy was potentially not legal in this state, Rep. Ward formed a new PAC to do basically the same thing) and that money was used to buy radio ads advocating one candidate (the perceived “least conservative” or “more moderate”)over another.
I got a good laugh out of that. Old Art Wittich (he of the law firm representing western tradition and attempting to overturn Montana’s campaign finance laws)wringing his hands about the supposed injustices being done to him by violations of those very laws.
20K is chump change compared to what the Tea Party backers spent. Cowgirl’s right, we DON”T know WHO they are. That’s the Problem….I don’t care so much how much they spend if they were honest about WHO they are.
If the Koch’s want to back a candidate, then the ad needs to say “paid for by the Koch Brothers” not Americans for Apple Pie….

“Montana’s News Station(s)” are still running the Koch-financed anti-Tester commercial about the specious “dust” issue, even though their news departments have reported the commercial is a lie.
I guess advertising revenue is more important, so the stations’ owners willingly participate in the GOP’s disinformation campaign.
