New Poll: Gillan in the Lead

A new poll by Public Policy Polling, a national firm that polls in Montana periodically, says that Billings state senator Kim Gillan has opened up a lead against the rest of the field in the Democratic Congressional primary contest, taking 21 percent, with Diane Smith at 13, Franke Wilmer 11, Strohmaier 9 and Bob Stutz at 1.

The poll also reveals that Gillan and Steve Daines (who will be the GOP nominee) are now in a 33-27 match in the general election.

  1. Gillan is the best candidate Dems have at beating Daines in November. Period. Franke would be toast, Smith would switch parties, and the rest are clueless. I live in Franke’s district and have voted for her in the past, but not this time. She is acting more like Dennis Kucinich than like a candidate who has even a prayer of ever representing Montana in Congress.

  2. Daines must be so pissed that in spite of all his cash a dem is already polling within striking distance to take him out. I love it!!

  3. Im sorry I can not vote for Kim Gillian, she maybe a great person and maybe did some good things in the legislature, but she is a make over of Dennis McDonald, and all the other candidates for the last 10yrs that went up against Rehberg. She will lose. I just dont see it. Im sorry.

  4. I am voting for Gillan because she is one of the FEW (sadly) people in the legislature that was willing to stand up and fight. When Keith Regier called women cattle during the session (I believe there was an article about it here) it was Kim Gillan who stood up for us against him. We need more fighters and less people who are willing to go along at all costs.

  5. The good news here is that Franke Wilmer is finally gone from the legislature. While fairly intelligent, she should have had the smarts to know she didn’t stand a chance.

At least Kim Gillan is a reasonable moderate with lots of experience who will represent the less extreme people in Montana well.

That is so insulting! “Extemists'” as your Tester called us (after he secured our votes), are people who support things like Social Security and the Post Office, Medicare and the UN, who want us out of your neverending wars and think Obama screwed up and gave it all away on health care. We are the majoroty of the population, you know, the ones that your weak-kneed “moderate” Democrats refuse to fight for.

Sheesh, what utter hubris, to be In a loser party like the Dems and call people who believe in and fight for things “extremists.” Think I’m gonna puke.

      • you’re defending the TEA Party legislature? those morons are about as useful as dinosaur repellent.

        • Arguing with Mark is pointless. There are too many birds on that antenna for anything to get through.

No – your Bozeman Dem is referring to the shrinking progressive wing of your silly party. We are his extremists.

Ya Ya ya !!! You say this only because I am telling the truth! That you do not argue, you just enjoy calling me names because facts hurt you, and you have no comeback!

I can take that kind of punishment all day long from people like you!

It never occurs to you to stop lying,or spreading untruths does i,t Mark? Gamesmanship at the costs of others is your only goal here, that and you are very jealous of Cowgirl,Pogie, and other like Montana bloggers that have their act together!

      • Obama Colorado Team:

      • Tokarski, do be clear. Tester was specific about who he called “Extemists” (sic). You weren’t in that group, kitten. But your fauxrage is so very cute.

Gillian doesn’t look so hard to beat a month away from the Primary. The undecided is still at around 80%, So don’t discount anyone!

My guess is that commercials of any kind on Radio and TV can make up that difference in a heart beat, so Franke and Smith are really still very much in this race!

My thoughts to you commentors in each base camp, is the need to start posting links that prove your candidates bonafides, and stop arguing amongst yourselves, we are looking for a democrat win win win in November, so get behind are leaders who win as soon as possible. Also, Push the vote! make sure every body in your area, gets registered!

Most regular commentors already know my pick, but I promise to support whoever wins, so we all win.

  8. Gillan may be leading in the polls, but Stohmaier has the most popular post on here this week and his youtube ad has 6,000 views! Anything could happen!

Interesting. When you FIRE all your real journalists, where does a corporation go to get editorial comment? THE BLOGS! Strange, very strange. And very sad. Is there any way to charge them for NOT doing their jobs? This is kinda like them self-checkout lines at the store. No need for an employee when some dumbass will do the job themselves! The Spitoon grows more pathetic by the day.

And funny that they give top billing to the Havre Daily Eructor. Does anyone actually READ the daily eructor?? Other than the moron who writes it? What does it get, maybe ten hits a day? All from the writer?? Funny, funny stuff!|newswell|text|Frontpage|p

    • Interesting. The Havre Daily Corrector is indeed a terrible blog. They picked three conservative blogs and two liberal. I liked the choice they took from this blog but I don’t feel that they picked the best work from some of the others. Intentional? Reminds me of how Fox News picks its liberal commentators.

Really, Thats more like a toe dip in the ocean of content around Montana more then anything, I have read lately. Your right Larry!

  10. I am voting for Gillan because she has the best chance of beating Daines. It was great to have her fighting in the legislature. So many of the Dems seemed just beat down by the other side but Gillan never gave up. She’ll need that in the Congress for sure!

  11. The phenomenon of the utter lack of smarts and gumption from (some) dems in 2011 legislature can be explained. First, they were greatly outnumbered. Instead of using their situation as an opportunity to expose the crazy rhetoric and values of the GOP, there were a great number of dems who decided it was more important to “make deals” to try to pass their fluff piece of legislation they thought would be important to list on a postcard of their “accomplishments” some day. They thought if they didn’t rail against massive cuts to food stamps, education, help for the elderly and disabled, etc, that the Repubs would let their harmless (pointless) bill go through and they could feel good about themselves. Meanwhile, peoples livelihoods hung in the balance.

These “Democrats” know who they are. They will never have my support.

    • You aren’t saying Gillan was one of these right? In my mind she was the opposite.

      • No, I’m saying this was a problem for some. I don’t mean Sen. Gillan. I don’t want to name names (ahem, Mary Caferro and Jason Priest.) But there were quite a few.

  12. Gov. race a “toss-up:” PPP.
