Montana TEA Party Calls for Secession

The Montana TEA Party is circulating a petition asking President Obama to allow Montana to secede from the union.

In an email sent to TEA Partiers yesterday, the Montana Shrugged Billings TEA Partiers wrote that it was time to “put the White House on Notice” and ask the president to  “Peacefully grant the State of Montana to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.”

Perhaps the impending secession is the reason TEA Party Republican Jerry O’Neil is demanding his legislative salary be paid in gold. 

As of this posting, only 24 people had signed the petition, so the thousands of members the Montana Shrugged TEA Party had claimed to have must have dwindled somewhat.

    There is actually two petitions there asking the same thing. The earlier on has just short of 10,000 idiots signing it, must from out of state. Even if this were anything more than a batshit crazy idea wouldn’t the morons all have to be from Montana to consider it?

    A Montana state lawmaker is asking that he be paid in gold coins because of his lack of faith in the U.S. dollar amid a rising deficit.
    Jerry O’Neil, a Republican just reelected in his northern Montana district, says his constituents told him he was not honoring his duty to uphold the U.S. Constitution, which O’Neil and Gold Standard supporters say requires the government to print money backed by gold.

    Question to the secessionists: If I’ve earned social security retirement benefits or military retirement benefits, do I lose those benefits and income by relinquishing my US citizenship and becoming a citizen of another country?

      Bye bye highway construction jobs and contracts. Montana’s not going to be able to come up with that money itself. We get 4 dollars back from the federal government for every one dollar we pay in taxes. Bye-bye school funding. Bye-bye rural hospitals.

    The wingnuts have come out of the woodwork early this year. Secessionists, Representatives wanting to be paid in gold, another petition to adopt “The Code of the West”, a petition to limit both the number of days a person can register and the length of time for early voting (mail-in ballots)… the list goes on. I guess it should come as no surprise given the last legislative session but aren’t Montanan’s getting tired of being the laughing stock of America? Surely we can do better than this…

    An honest question: Since we the taxpayers are purchasing laptops for these fools, which they get to keep forever, can we at least block access to the model legislation at ALEC and the Tenth Amendment Center? These laws are supposed to be benefitting Montanans, not some out-of-state nutjob think tanks.

    Look the ecomomy is in trouble and neither Democrats or Republicans have a plan. Retirement plans aren’t making much money either. So wasn’t O’Neil just making a point, that if our dollar continues to become weaker, than we all lose. Will we have to tax everyone to help reduce the debt? Or will those in Washington and Helena, come to the realization that we can’t spend our way to a better economy.
