Jennifer Olsen, a Week Later

No one should defend Jennifer Olsen, the Billngs GOP Chair, for posting a photo of a device designed to trap president Obama by luring him with a watermelon. But I suppose you could make a case that there could be some amount of leniency due, some forgiveness, based on the reality that people sometimes post things and re-tweet things, or forward things, without much thought. In an instant, they’ve made a grave mistake that will haunt them forever, perhaps more than they deserve (though they do derve to be held accountable) for doing or saying something without fully thinking it through.
But Olsen’s response has been disappointing, and does not reccomend her any reappraisal.
It would have been easy enough to just remove the item and state that she realized it was in bad taste. Her silence and refusal to even offer an opinion on whether the photo is racist could be taken as a greater indication that she’s a racist than the post itself. People make mistakes, forward things that they see or things that have come to them, sometimes without thinking. Or, perhaps more to the point in this case, sometimes they are not smart enough or sophisticated enough to even realize, in the moment of action, that the item is inappropriate or distasteful. We don’t really know what was in her mind as she posted the photo. Certainly she does not appear to be an intelligent, educated or sophistcated person.
But now Olsen is compounding her problems by keeping mum while allowing the GOP to release an idiotic statement on her behalf, defending her on grounds that “none of Olsen’s 1,000 or so Facebook friends have corroborated” that they ever received the posting, and that the possibility thus exists that Olsen “may have been hacked.”
Meanwhile, Olsen herself has not said that she was hacked. Rather, she issued a garbled statement accusing Nicole French (the Montanafesto blog author with an impeccable reputation who posted a screenshot of Olsen’s Facebook page which clearly showed that Olsen posted the photo) of “making up stories about me because we’ve had a falling out.” She further says that Ms. French’s “posting this about me is all fabricated,” whatever that means.
This response appears to be a “non-denial denial,” as the Watergate journalists Woodward and Bernstein might have described it. Olsen can’t decide on an alibi. She is being vague about whether her defense is that she was hacked or whether somebody, Nicole French or some other person, created some sort of fake image. And Olsen, ou will notice, stops short of making either of these allegations. She instead parses words and remains factually vague in her outrage, so that she can appear to be some sort of victim, without specifying precisely what malfeasance has been visited upon her.
Which is another way of admitting that she posted the photo.
At any rate, this is a lesson for everyone. If you do something like this, just admit you were wrong, apologize, and move on to act better in the future.
Cowgirl, Olsen’s views and behavior are nothing unusual within Montana’s Far Rightists, who include most “libertarians” I know here in the Bitterroot as well as most Republican. When I say “most” I mean the ones who actively expose themselves as stupid racists like Olsen, of which there are legion, and their enablers, which include most Republicans and Libertarians. By all means, allow the Repubs to shred themselves with denials on this. They deserve it. But don’t let the libertarians off the hook. There’s a myth out there, particularly amongst young folks who had been willfully not paying attention to politics until the marijuana movement took wing that Libertarianism is as close to the anarchy we all desire as we’re gonna get, so toke up and right on—and all that. I’m not saying that all Libertarians are naive folks who aren’t paying attention to real politics, but I am saying that all folks who aren’t paying attention to real politics are Libertarians or downright Republicans, if they get involved at all. Enabling is enabling and the effect is demonstrable. Take Ravalli and Missoula Co.s as just two case studies. This is particularly poignant when you consider the future of Medicare in the hands of young people who are setting their lifelong political minds now and are being constantly hammered with bogus arguments that they’re getting screwed by “paying” for it so better make your pile now and then find a mountaintop to make your stand on. This is no way to run a sane society, but I attended a Ron Paul rally in Missoula in 2008 and it was full of cheering young-to-middle-aged people, many of whom I personally recognized as political “dropouts” up til the marijuana thing. I was quite frankly disgusted at the naiveté displayed by them, and still am. Don’t forget the racists, but don’t forget the enablers either. Neither exist in a vacuum.

I haven’t seen anyone point it out yet, so I will. The notions that ‘she was hacked’ and that none of her ’1000 Facebook friends’ saw the offending post are completely contradictory. If she were hacked, all of her friends would have seen it. If no one saw it, then it was never posted. Yet Nicole has the screenshot to prove it was. The YCRCC is lying it’s ass off. Let’s get that straight from the get go. (Don’t any of these people know how the Internet works?)

I am curious, morally superior Democrats who have gathered to condemn the watermelon image, which is indeed crude: How would you feel if your president was assassinating white people, instead of people of different color? If the two Americans he had killed were not of a different skin color, would you then decide that he should not be killing people without due process?
I can see why the watermelon photo trumps all here, but please address this minor matter of your president and his usurpation of the right to murder people without trial or judicial review.

I reiterate that intention when the same idiot writes: “Newton says it (velocity) is irrelevant. Isaac Newton’s Third Law is that F=F. F=mass x acceleration. Acceleration is the derivative of the function of Velocity, stated as Δv/Δt. According to Newton, Velocity has *everything* to do with his 3rd law, because it is integral (math pun) to his equation for Force.
The only people who would speak to the contrary, with the voice of Newton himself, are at best woefully ignorant, and at worst delusional idiots, like Tokarski. He’d have been better off heeding my advice to shut up and go away.
By the way, there’s a reason why I have not yet been banned using the name Pundet. They, the people behind the wall, are not paying attention. 1. You don’t seem to follow politics closely, and instead get wrapped up in personality. As a consequence, your party leaders are able to satisfy the right wing agenda without your awareness.
2. Your party is marching ever rightward. In 2006, you won a majority in the House and a virtual tie in the Senate by campaigning against the Iraq War. Your leaders afterward, in cooperation with Bush, expanded that war.
3. Since 2008, your party has switch positions and is now ant-Bil of Rights, pro-detention, pro-assassination, pro-drone warfare, pro-torture and secret prison, and for every new war that comes along.
4. You stubbornly support “”lesser-evil” politics, allowing your leaders to be wimps and never holding them accountable when they betray you.
5. The most easily discernible political manipulations, as is currently going on with deficits and sequestration, works so easily on you that it ape pars that you do not have a functioning brain, even as I know better.

I was just teasing him because he wrote a post one time, being all wispy and self-reflective, about how he was the best philosophy student ever to matriculate at MSU, saying that his teachers held him in awe. I graduated from MSU Billings, but can’t say I knew much on leaving.

I risked my personal, professional and political reputation to expose a leader from my own political party. Had this person been a Democrat or a Libertarian, I would have done the same. Her assertion in the following link that I am fabricating stories “because we’ve been successful in getting Republicans elected” makes no sense. My goal is to elect Republicans as well. Rob’s right – This woman is claiming her FB was hacked but she filed no complaint. Also no one else but her saw the racist post. THEN she claimed the screenshot was a fabrication! The story keeps changing and the stink keeps growing.
No offense, but that AP reporter did a very poor job. Once she said she’d been hacked, he should have asked her 1. if in her opinion, the joke was racist; 2. whether she was fb friends with the guy from whom the pic had been shared, 3. whether it had in fact been posted on his wall, and 4. what action has she taken toward that friend (e.g. defriend him) and his post if she does find it racist. Then, the reporter should have asked a few pointed followup questions about the hundred of messages of support she is getting – are they of the “This isn’t racist and you are racist for saying so” variety that we saw posted immediately on Montanafesto’s facepage, or are they of the “We know you would never do anything like that” variety? What does she have to say about the fact that many of her supporters seem to think that she did and don’t think there was anything wrong with it? And can she really blame Montanafesto for thinking she posted it when many of her friends and supporters also thought she posted it? Especially since their first reaction was to demonize the blogger rather than say “that must be a mistake, she would never post anything like that, thank you for bringing this to our attention”.
Of course, we all know her defense is a tissue of lies and she was vehemently defended by her cohorts because she did reposted the pic with the thoughtless carelessness of the casual racist who justifies themselves with claims that reasonable people who call them on their racism are “the political correctness police”. She should be forced to step down. Bailey and Kenat should be as well. This whole affair is a sick and sad embarrassment to the Billings Republican party.
It seems to me Matt Volz was attempting to “show both sides” without much knowledge of what the sides were actually about. Showing both sides doesn’t mean showing someone who posts a racist item in a more positive light. Here’s a real reporter who does a much better job of showing multiple sides to an issue. In this example, which I encourage Mr. Volz to read, the reporter quotes Republicans who disagree with Olsen and with those who agree wtih her. Watch and learn Mr. Volz.

Jennifer Olson is smarter than Mark Tokarski (Pundit).
Though obviously challenging, if any of you good folk have followed the thread exchanges here in the comments to this post, you will recognize elements that teach us all about online communication. Since being exposed as a liar by Russ Hart, Jennifer Olson and the YCRCC have said nothing. They want the controversy surrounding her racist post to now go away. The saddest thing to me is that it likely will. It is difficult to maintain righteous anger when new outrages present almost every day. The racist is likely to maintain her position of power because people aren’t as concerned with wrong doing as they are with being protected from the stupidity of wrong doing. Tokarski, on the other hand, keeps promoting his wrong doing. Since being exposed as a liar, Tokarski has left at least dozens of comments. Unlike those who have come to understand their position, Tokarski does not and will not ‘get it’.
Still, Olson and Tokarski use the same methods to cover their lies. They never wrote what they clearly wrote. (I never posted that picture to Facebook; I never wrote any such thing!.) I was hacked! (Someone else posted what I never posted. Someone stole my IP address and then inexplicably gave it back to me.) It wasn’t that bad! (The use of watermelons aren’t racist. It was a joke. Can’t anyone see how I would never do such a bad thing? So it wasn’t bad, right?) Someone is out to get me! (Nicole made this up. No one actually saw what was clearly seen. Kailey is MONTY!) The people who accuse me are evil! (Nicole is mean. Kailey is a sociopath. I am the good one!) I know things you people don’t. (Only a liar, Demoncrat and Rhino would have spread these lies about me, and she’s not really a Republican! Kailey doesn’t really have any education at all.) No one can verify that I did anything wrong. (No one saw that post. No one really knows anything save what I tell them.) What I do is above review! (The YCRCC supports me. I have people who think as I do, and only the stupid would question those people!)
~sigh~ It is a never-ending litany. And it works online. Jennifer’s bullshit will be forgotten. I’m a pessimist and I predict that come the election of 2014, Jennifer Olson will still be the head of the YCRCC. She’s a racist, and she has infused the party with that racist sensibility, and they like it. When her lies were proven, she did the best thing possible. She went silent, and that’s why she will be the head of the YCRCC in 2014.
Tokarski is not so smart. He hasn’t gone silent at all, but then he has nothing to gain or lose. His effort is to undercut Democrats. With absolutely no regard for anything people really want, his idea that is that people suffer so that he gets what he wants. Which, if one actually takes a look, is that people suffer so that he feels better about himself. He is no different from Jennifer Olson at all. Not one single bit. We will pay the price for those egos. Just sayin’ …
