Women’s Clinic Attacked on Eve of 40 Day Protest

One of Montana’s only women’s health clinics that provides abortion care was attacked yesterday.  All Families Healthcare is the area’s only provider – the next closest is in Helena.

The attack came on the eve of a planned 40 day protest by anti-choice groups, which goes by the name “40 Days for Life.” As Don Pogreba writes at Intelligent Discontent, this is shocking and terrible news.

As the Flathead Beacon reports the same clinic’s former building was destroyed in an with a firebomb in an attack in 1994.  In the 1990’s Montana saw a slate of clinic bombings and arson.

The first provider to be murdered in in the U.S. was in 1993. As the National Abortion Federation reports, “there have been seven subsequent murders and numerous attempted murders of clinic staff and physicians, several of which occurred in their own homes.” In 2009, Dr. George Tiller was shot to death in his church in Kansas.

Find the scumbag(s), give them their day in court and then send their sorry asses away.

  2. Catch ’em, nut ’em, and throw them back with the rest of the trash.

  3. The Flathead Beacon reports that a 24-year-old man from Columbia Falls was arrested for vandalizing the clinic, and for committing a burglary on Main Street. “Shortly after 6 p.m., March 4, Kalispell police officers responded to the report of another burglary that was in progress on South Main Street. Upon arrival, Klundt was found with multiple weapons, including a concealed loaded handgun.”

This may have had nothing to do with abortion.

  4. I find it so interesting that republicans vehemently advocate for their right to make their own choices, not government.

Here, however, they show their true colors – individual freedom is not on their agenda.

    • ??????????????????????????????????? How do you conflate a serial burglar with R’s showing colors? BTW, you responded to James Connor who is no R. I say that respectfully as he calls it clean on most issues and is a proud Dem.

      • Burglar’s steal. This was about scaring the people at the Clinic and it’s clients. Just like the bills Republicans have been trying to pass. One way or another they want to control women.

        • That might have been the burglar’s motive — but you don’t know that at this point. No one except the burglar does. You just believe it. Which is fine, that’s your right. But are you applying to the burglar/vandal the same standard of proof that you would expect for yourself if you were accused of a crime? Give that some thought.

          • I will wait till court but right now the reports point to vandalism more than Burglary. Plus the History of attacks against clinics. How would you guys feel if your Viagra providers were attacked on a regular basis?
And the State Legislature was always changing the regulations on it?

            • He was caught in the act attempting to burglarize another business. http://www.dailyinterlake.com/news/local_montana/article_0523e88c-a4a6-11e3-a980-001a4bcf887a.html

Zachary Klundt, 24, was arrested after Kalispell police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. A resident had reported a man tried to pick the lock in the front and back of the combination home and business. The resident reported the man was possibly drunk and seemed unsteady on his feet.

Officers converged on the area and located Klundt, who matched the description given by the resident. He had a concealed, loaded handgun and several other weapons, according to a news release from the Kalispell Police Chief Roger Nasset.

        • Lynn, there was a theft!!!! http://www.flatheadbeacon.com/articles/article/suspect_in_clinic_break_in_charged_with_felonies/38190/

Officers also found a footwear impression in the powder, along with blood at the scene. They were informed that about $950 was missing from the office.

Later on March 4, the Kalispell Police Department received a report of a burglary in process at Bob’s Bail Bonds on South Main Street. The owner reported that a man was trying to force his way into the business; the description of the man matched a man found about one block from the bail bonds office.

An officer approached the man, identified as Klundt, and noticed the butt of a handgun in Klundt’s jacket. The officer removed the gun, which he reported was loaded with a full magazine and a spare magazine in the holster.

Klundt allegedly told the officer he had been at the bail bonds office to speak with the owner, but the owner identified Klundt as the man attempting to break in.

Officers reported observing cuts on Klundt’s hands and finding glass shards in his pocket, and about $915 in another pocket. They also allegedly matched Klundt’s shoe tread pattern to that of the impression found at the clinic.

A search of Klundt’s residence turned up several boxes of medical supplies, along with medical documents, all of which were reported missing from the clinic.

  5. From the Montana Human Rights Network Facebook page:

“Breaking here first!! Zachary Klundt has been arrested in connection with the vandalism of the All Families Healthcare, a family practice and reproductive health clinic in Kalispell. Klundt is the son of Twyla, who is on the board of Hope Pregnancy Ministries which is affiliated with Clear Choice- a “crisis pregnancy center”. These type of centers have recently come under file by choice advocates like NARAL Pro-Choice Montana for being veiled anti-choice organizations that spread misinformation.
