Shame on Skyview

Skyview High School is targeting young women with a new dress code – a ban on yoga pants and leggings.  Young men are not prohibited from wearing workout pants to school–it is only young women. Shame on Skyview for doing so–and kudos to the young women and men fighting this policy.

Students have put up an online petition drive to change the policy, led by Ms. Dayah Dover. What say you readers – how about some solidarity with our young sisters at Skyview.  Let’s give the school board a reality check from the adult perspective too.  You can sign here in support of these young women.

As Ms. Raegan Bunting wrote on the online petition drive site:

I agree with [the petition to fight the dress code] because while tights are not pants, leggings, jeggings and yoga pants are. This change in dress code is sexualizing girls’ bodies by the mere fact that it was created because it is assumed that males are distracted by girls that wear leggings. But there is a difference between pants being tight because they are the wrong size, or pants being tight because that is simply the style of the clothing. Other articles of clothing that are tight include pencil skirts and certain dresses that. And if one argues that leggings and yoga pants should not be worn in schools due to their lack of professionalism, then schools should also ban other unprofessional articles of clothing such as sweat pants, skinny jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, and anything else that would not be considered appropriate for a “professional environment.”

The school board also seems to be suggesting that the none of the gentlemen at Skyview have any self control over themselves, which I think is also untrue. Mostly from what I noticed during my time at Skyview is that none of the boys in my class could not concentrate on the lesson because Sally chose to wear jeggings that day.

I believe that the school board is wrong in making their decision to ban leggings. It is sexist towards women and men, in the sense that women should not be allowed to show their completely covered figure, and that men have no self control over their bodies. I hope that Skyview reconsiders their choice.

War Between the Factions

The bitter battle between TEA Party and moderate Republicans rages on.  Today, Cowgirl tipsters are reporting that Cascade County Republican Party has ousted their own Chair, Rep. Roger Hagen (R-Cascade County.)  At the time of this posting there is no word on who will replace Hagen as CCRCC leader.   Rep.  Hagan is a moderate Republican who had ran for re-election but  was defeated by Tea Party fanatic Randy Pinnoci last June.

What Do Happy Plumbers Know?

Now that’s what I’m talking about! Great commercial!

And as far as GF goes, that pinnoci dude is a REAL wacko! But he’s gettin’ lots of money from the Kockh organizations! I have never seen so many signs for a local candidate before. It’ll be sad if he is in charge. But HEY, I say give’em enough rope that they’ll hang themselves!

Hard to say where GF is headed though. We always been a strong Dem/union area. But there IS a growing nutjob christofascist population. They’re building new wacko churches all the time. ie. victorychurchgf.com They even have lots of billboards around town announcing their new church! How freakin’ weird is that? Billboards for your “church”?? Advertising for the LAWyord!

The rightwing billionaires a funding these little chrsitofascist churches all over the place. They take in every lost soul they can find, promise’em everything, and give them NUTHIN’ but a heapin’ helpin’ of rightwing nonsense, and of course, JAYSUS! I know lots of folks who attend. They stay for awhile, and then, when they figure it out, usually move on with their lives. For lets face it, just how long can you live on the steady diet of bullshit? Trust Jesus and live in the street!

  2. Perhaps all Skyview is trying to do is stop the environment that triggers Jameis Winston episodes by young men. http://deadspin.com/jameis-winston-yells-fuck-her-right-in-the-pussy-kil-1635466887

Our public institutions of learning have taken upon themselves to teach many things including what is acceptable behavior and presentment of one’s self in the grown up world of making a productive life.

  3. When it comes to a choice as to where attention is directed, Jackie Brown correctly points out that today is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/pow-mia-recognition-day As Obama takes us further into a war with ISIS, more and more service men and women will be added to the list as to why we have this day of remembrance.

    • Gee Craig, Steve Daines voted for the war too. And how do you suppose CONgress is financing it? That’s right, with the credit card.

Deficit Spending. Don’t leave home without it.

      • Gee Pubi, compare the remarks of Curtis with Daines on Obama’s war. http://mtpr.org/post/candidates-weigh-necessity-military-strikes

        Curtis:

Curtis says she doesn’t think Obama needs congressional authorization to implement his plan. Some critics wonder why the President is planning military strikes when ISIS hasn’t directly attacked the United States. Curtis says Senator John Walsh – a veteran who led over 700 troops in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 – has convinced her that these radicals present a clear threat:

“…and that some of the folks who are working with ISIS have the ability to enter into the United States and have made repeated threats that they will continue to kill Americans. I really trust Senator Walsh’s judgment on this and I think he knows what he’s talking about.”

        Daines:

“Our foreign policy is unraveling. Any strategy must have a clear objective and all necessary authorizations from Congress. It must confront Islamic extremism comprehensively, without placing new troops on the ground.”

Unless you were a supporter of Charles Sturart I, reliance upon imperial arrogance, as Obama has practiced, to the ignore the legislative bodies has its perils. Now Curtis’ deference to Walsh reveals a fatal lack of gravitas and intellectual ability on the important matters facing our nation.

  4. Aw, that’s my girl! Proud to see her on Cowgirl for the first time. Not so proud to see John Quandt, former vice chair of the Yellowstone County Republican Central Committee and current Eastern MT director of Americans for Prosperity Facebooking her to tell her what a great job she’s doing for standing up for what she believes in. He was the first person to call me a hacker and defend Jennifer Olson for being a racist. Keeping it classy, GOP. It is mind-boggling that anyone would assume a student who is protesting a misogynistic policy like banning leggings/yoga pants would also want to knock doors to “educate” the public on the Van Dkye- Wheat Supreme Court race.

  5. Craig’s you’re victim blaming and that is not appreciated. You blame the woman for this man yelling that he wants to attack her?!? You are saying that if women are harassed because it’s their fault for wearing yoga pants. People like you have created the rape culture we have today. For shame.

    • (1) I don’t think the Winston situation has any relationship to, or bearing on, the Skyview policy on yoga leggings.

      (2) I just posted at http://www.flatheadmemo.com my thoughts on the issues raised by the Skyview situation.

      • Yoga pants can be worn tastefully and professionally. I suspect that wasn’t happening at Skyview, prompting this policy, but I could be wrong. I spend most of days working in various courthouses and I see leggings or yoga pants on virtually every female working there. I am quite sure that they aren’t thinking about men when they put their leggings on each morning, I’m certainly not. Males shouldn’t flatter themselves, women wear leggings because when worn properly, they look great, with minimal effort and suffering.

Who are we kidding? High school boys are aroused by a mild breeze. To blame women’s clothing for this is absurd. I don’t think yoga pants or leggings are inappropriate in the least, but they should be worn tastefully. What is so wrong with a girl dressed like this?

Pee Wee Daines. Bold, decisive, NUTLESS!

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Steve Daines today issued the following statement on the House passage of the continuing appropriations resolution, H.J. Res. 124:

“Today we did what was necessary to keep the government operating. It’s what the American people expect and deserve. Congress also took steps to address the direct threat posed by ISIL. I continue to have serious concerns with the President’s plan to arm the Syrian rebels; however, failure to take any action is not an option.”

What a NUTLESS, CLUELESS, BRAINLESS wonder! Come ON, Pee Wee! You all READY voted to shut down the gummint once before when the Dems wouldn’t allow you to GUT all the programs we love! (social security, medicaire, etc.) Remember?! So why now, Pee Wee? Did you get religion, son?!

You see, Pee Wee, when you and your butt buddy Cruz tried to hold the country hostage for the Big Kockhs, people SAW you for what you are, simply a little pimp for the Big Kochks and Giantfart! And they don’t like that!

So now, yes, you have an image problem. And the problem is that your IMAGE is exactly who you are! A little pimp! Gonna take a WHOLE lotta polish to polish up a turd like you! Think I might even invest myself in some TURD polish stock!

BTW, Pee Wee, we KNOW what would happen with you in the senate. Buh BYE, public lands! Buh BYE, social security, medicaire, etc. Hell O privatize everything left to steal! That’s not what America wants, Pee Wee. But do keep talking! We got your number now!

  7. Update, Cascade County GOP office has gone DARK thanks to Toxic Tea Tide and driving out the responsible adults in their leadership, now a ship of fools.

  8. I have seen state employees and teachers wear yoga pants to work. Just saying. With my own eyes.

  9. Speaking of “War Between the Factions”, there are MATT ROSENDALE political signs still dotting the landscape in Park and Sweet Grass counties.

  10. Maybe it is time to institute uniforms for students. The amount of angst over who is wearing what is ridiculous.

    • Instituting uniforms is no more relevant today then it was 40 years ago, when the offenders were tube tops and cutoffs. This too shall pass.

  11. A war on yoga pants is a good strategy to take the spotlight from falling test scores and the drop out rate.

OH MY GOD! Not Stumpy?! ISIS is now after the right honorable Mayor Stumpy Winters of GF! This is some serious sh*t! For if they behead Stumpy, he’d be only FOUR feet tall! Folks, we can’t let that happen to a man of Stumpy’s stature!

    MONTANA SOAPBOX

Strange time to mail the Quran

Last week, I received a copy of the Quran.

During a heightened period of instability in the Middle East, beheadings of Americans by Islamic terrorists, and ongoing national security threats, the Council on American-Islamic Relations sent me a copy of the Quran for my reference library.

In its cover letter, CAIR cites a 2009 speech made by President Barack Obama in Egypt where he declared that America promised “a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world.”

CAIR appears to be acting upon that speech literally, and now is taking its message to the local level. In fact, I’ve learned that all major cities in Montana have been receiving copies of the Quran as part of the organization’s public relations campaign.

On its face, the distribution of the Quran may seem innocuous. At any other time, I may not have been so bothered by its delivery.

However, the package arrived three days before the 13th anniversary of Sept. 11. This is noteworthy. CAIR’s cover letter does not acknowledge in any way the anniversary of our country’s worst terrorist attack. It’s not what the letter says, it’s what it doesn’t say.

CAIR does not condemn terrorist attacks or recent actions by Islamic terrorists. The expectation appears to be that we’re to simply accept this peaceful gesture and overlook what terrorists are doing in the name of the religious book.

While CAIR would likely say that the Quran was distributed as an educational reference tool and in peace, the timing reflects very poor judgment; so much so, that one could interpret the mailing as an “in your face” overture. Americans could easily misconstrue the campaign as a subtle threat.

    The mailing is no coincidence.

Americans need to know about this program to consider its meaning, implications and intent as world events unfold around us.

Michael J. Winters, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is mayor of the city of Great Falls.

Maybe we need to get Stumpy a security detail….!

  13. Maybe you need to stop being so paranoid and accept the gift of the Quran as just what it is, a gift. And accept that the letter means what it says – not try to read into it all kinds of things that it does not say.

That is what gets all of us into all kinds of trouble all the time – thinking for others when we have no idea what they are thinking.

    ‘jes sayin’

    • Maybe the mayor should send them a bible? I think he’s reading too much into this and perhaps the Catholic Church should apologize for all the innocents slaughtered in the name of the Lord over several
      crusades? The

A few commenters here have taken a stab at humor and a few at mockery….. One appears to be entirely wacko. However, the truth of the Cascade County Republican Central Committee is that indeed the “Responsible Republicans” were replaced by people interested in truth, honesty and the American way of life. If ever we are to clean up this mess in Washington DC, we must start at the grassroots and build a solid foundation with people of integrity. Building upon a solid foundation of adherence to the Constitution and demanding fiscal responsibility will work its way up to Helena and Washington DC, toppling the current corrupt administrators.

A press release was sent to the Great Falls Tribune on Sept. 17th about the CCRCC meeting on Sept. 13th which resulted in a new set of bylaws as well as a change in leadership. Typical of the Tribune, nothing has been published yet. Although we remain hopeful that the public will learn of this good news!

We are pleased to announce that following persons are now in charge of the CCRCC Executive Board. George Paul, Chairman; Sheridan Buck, 1st Vice Chair; Ron Staley, 2nd Vice Chair; Judy Tankink, Secretary; Lola Galloway, Treasurer; J.C. Kantorowicz, Finance Chair; Bill Zucconi, State Committeeman; Darlene Meddock, State Committeewoman; Rick Linafelter and June Buckle are Congressional Committee persons and Kory Stewart remains the staff secretary. Business continues to be conducted through our offices at 3220 10th Ave. South. And yes…… We will leave the light on for you!

This is a collection of both new and prior Republican Board members (even a former democrat) who are committed to providing the leadership needed in Cascade Co. to move this state and nation back to adherence to the Constitution, fiscal responsibility and a position worthy of respect on the world stage.

Whooo BOY! It’s gonna be a wild ride for the CC Pubbies! The Tealiban wing has been replaced by the ISIS wing of the ReePube party! These guys are the real deal! Real NUTS! Just listen to the language used, and if that don’t scare the hell out of you, you’re not gettin’ it.

They’re gonna protect our “American way of life”! (’cause only THEY know how to, with a heapin’ helpin’ of JAYSUS and fascism!)

They’re gonna “clean up this mess in D.C.”! Get Jaysus in there as disinfectant! Everyone in there’s corrupt, doncha know!

“The “Responsible Republicans” (read godless liberal commies) were replaced by people interested in truth, honesty and the American way of life.” YEEE hah! Ride’em J.C.!

“Building upon a solid foundation of adherence to the Constitution and demanding fiscal responsibility will work its way up to Helena and Washington DC, toppling the current corrupt administrators.” Yes, because ONLY wackos know how to do this!

And J.C. IS gonna demand “fiscal responsibility” just as soon as he can figure out how to do it AND keep his farm subsidies! Along with some of the others on this list suckin’ large offn’ Unca Sugartit!

High falutin’ language from low falutin’ intellects is NOT a winning combination, as will soon be proven! I feel sorry for the Republicans in GF.

  15. Word is that the CCRCC also lost their headquarters building, which Roger Hagen had been renting – or paying some of the rent on, which was owned by another moderate Repub – perhaps Sen. Ed Buttrey. Regardless – they now have no HQ.

  16. This outfit is perfectly appropriate for school – yet is now banned under the Skyview dress code. Looks like these school officials have take this too far.
