Surprise, Surprise: GOP Tax Bill Balloons The Deficit

What would the Tea Party say now? The GOP controls all three branches of government. Steve Daines and Greg Gianforte tout their “business” acumen.  And somehow, our deficit is set to hit 1 TRILLION dollar for the first time ever next year.

Perhaps it has to do with the tax bill Gianforte and Daines supported that was projected to add over $1 trillion dollars to the deficit.  Despite claims that these tax cuts would pay for themselves, it seems like Daines and Gianforte took their millions in tax breaks for themselves and their millionaire pals and left the next generation with the bill.

They swore that economic growth would pay for these tax handouts to the rich, but instead, well, let’s go to the AP story on the Congressional Budget Office report:

Instead, Monday’s report estimates that the GOP tax bill, which is Republican-controlled Washington’s signature accomplishment under Trump, will add $1.8 trillion to the deficit over the coming decade, even after its positive effects on the economy are factored in.

If only there was some way for Gianforte and Daines to know about this beforehand!  Oh, wait, we knew this was going to happen but Daines and Gianforte stuck their heads in the sand and waited for their handout.

Fiscal conservatism is out, crony capitalism is in.  Daines and Gianforte won’t support spending to help Montana.  They’ll support tax cuts for themselves that put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block in order to get the deficit under control.

The Tea Party ought to set their sights on two of their own and anyone else who supported this tax bill. Daines and Gianforte took conservative Republicans as easy marks, and it looks like they were right.

  1. Where are all the ‘screamin’ ‘hang obama’ Teabaggers now on the capitol steps, huh?

  2. This is obviously the fault of Libruls, Democraps and that Obama Mooslim fella.

Nothing to see here….please move along…has to be a deep state plot.

  4. Montana voters elected Daines and GG. We knew what they were going to do when they got there, so no surprises. Guess we Montanans either don’t give a crap or we’re just ignorant.

  5. Republican voters “knew they were snakes when they took them in.”

  6. But of course, you are ignoring the obvious.

THE USA has 3% plus GDP growth now, for the last year, something The Great Leader, Barack Hussein Obama said couldn’t happen.

If that continues for the decade the revenue into Washington wipes out 1.5 trillion dollars.

    Believe in President Trump!

He will not forsake you if you trust him!

    • Eric, while we have seen your disregard for facts I cannot help but correct you.

Donald Trump will be regarded by historians as the last convulsion of a dying movement. Hopefully the GOP that rises from the ashes will do better by the Americans people.

    • @Eric* – I think you probably have a legitimate case to file against your parents for child abuse. There’s no way you could have been dropped on your head that many times by sheer accident.

      “Believe in President Trump!
He will not forsake you if you trust him!”

The so-called president has “forsaken” every chump who trusted him for over 50 years!! Manafort and Cohen are in the learning curve about that right now. As are all the brain-damaged numbskulls who voted for him.

    • You’re Eric Coobs aren’t you? You stupidity has not improved over the years.

      • I’m trying to be in disguise – but I guess there are no other Eric’s in Montana kicking sand in the faces of the libs, are there?

        Facts are stubborn things.

        • “Facts are stubborn things.”

          For you to grasp maybe.

        • @Eric D – I won’t speculate what the ‘D’ stands for, but I do have suspicions.

Yes, facts are indeed stubborn things. And, to the chagrin of the alt-right, they seem to have a significant liberal bias. Those are real facts, of course, not the “alternative” facts that KellyAnne Conway loves so much.

  7. I never thought I would say this, but I agree with Dick Cheney. Congress does not consult its checkbook ledger to see if there is enough money before writing a check for the latest outrageously-priced weapon system. In effect, Congress creates the money needed for its spending – all spending. So the Federal government can’t “go broke.” Understanding how monetary policy works in real life is essential to not fall into the neoliberal “debt trap” as the author of this article does.

    • I will be long dead and gone before this house of cards collapses.

It will fall down and will make The Hunger Games seem like a Picnic.

      • Not likely – After only 5 quarters America is rapidly recovering from the Obama economy.

Let go of the Obama trance Bob’s, and get on the wagon, helping make America Great again!

Even Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat, and he changed a nation!

We are the party of the big tent, and you will soon fit right in!

        • Wow, it is remarkable how little you know of American History. The fact is that 47 out of the 49 recorded economic recessions and depressions throughout American history have happened under Republican control and all were caused by Republican economic policies…including the Great Depression AND the Bush Great Recession that Obama had to clean up after. Funny you don’t remember how Republican policies brought the entire world to it’s knees under W Bush and wiped out retirements and savings of millions of Americans and caused millions to lose their jobs. Funny you don’t remember Reagan leaving office after tripling our national debt and how Reaganomics in fact started the exodus of U.S. manufacturing, the outsourcing of the American workforce and actually shrunk the middle class by millions for the first time since the 40’s. (before Reagan college was affordable, single income households THRIVED, people could retire with good pensions, and the working class had lower taxes! yep, Reagan raised taxes on the middle class several times.) We now have over 40 years of absolute proof that modern Republican policies fail EVERY SINGLE TIME and are always a race to the bottom for all but the very top. Just check out how Kansas did during Gov Brownback’s “real live experiment in conservative governance”, it was far, far, far from the “fiscal conservative paradise” he promised would happen. A Republican Governor, Republican State House, Republican State Senate, Kansas was a 100% Republican controlled state and they got their way on everything, used Trickle Down Republican economic policies and it decimated the state so bad they were selling city parks and could not afford new tires for state vehicles.

          • There isn’t a thing I could add to that to improve the content so I won’t try.

            Well written.

            And 100% wasted on Eric.

          • Sorry Kevin – your essay is a compilation of junk out of an old Dem playbook. The facts are that tax receipts in 1980 were $517 billion, and increased to $909 billion by 1988. I thought you supported working people Kevin. When we see 5 quarters of wage growth, and plants reopening and putting Union workers back to work do you cheer, or take a knee?

            • @Eric – And those “5 quarters of wage growth” were simply a continuation of the 28 quarters of wage growth under the Obama administration, and you trump-chumps are just trying to take credit for it. And what specific plants can you point to that “reopened”? And, if you look somewhere other than the fiction that is the Repugnant playbook, you’ll see that there are fewer union jobs now than any time in the past 60 years.

Thankfully, the vicious alt-right has been successful in keeping Guantanamo open – at least we’ll have someplace to put Trumpsky when he’s convicted. LOCK HIM UP!!!

              • Nothing like revisionist history – 8 years of no wage growth, and people leaving the workforce.

Obama got many millions of people on food stamps, and the Donald is getting them jobs!

                • Eric, everyone who has read anything you have posted here knows you are a sad little liar.

The economy gained a net 11.6 million jobs. The unemployment rate dropped to below the historical norm.
Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 4.1 percent after inflation. The gain was 3.7 percent for just production and nonsupervisory employees.
After-tax corporate profits also set records, as did stock prices. The S&P 500 index rose 166 percent.
The number of people lacking health insurance dropped by 15 million. Premiums rose, but more slowly than before.
The federal debt owed to the public rose 128 percent. Deficits were rising as Obama departed.
Home prices rose 20 percent. But the home ownership rate hit the lowest point in half a century.
Illegal immigration declined: The Border Patrol caught 35 percent fewer people trying to get into the U.S. from Mexico.
Wind and solar power increased 369 percent. Coal production declined 38 percent. Carbon emissions from burning fossil fuel dropped 11 percent.
Production of handguns rose 192 percent, to a record level.
The murder rate dropped to the lowest on record in 2014, then rose and finished at about the same rate as when Obama took office.

                  • @The Bobs – It would be charitable to give Eric Whozis the benefit of the doubt on his pile of stable-sweepings. He might not be lying – perhaps he’s just presenting “alternative facts.”

  8. Well ‘Bob’ you can try to make the Obama economy out to be good, but I don’t think you will change many minds – ha ha

Montana is a State of about a million people, and out of that number about 170,000 bothered to stamp an envelope or vote for Hillary.

If you are looking for deeply stupid people that is a sure way to narrow it down!

    • Ya think? Some people need to believe their own lies. Its like you suddenly woke up the day Obama was sworn in. At that point, for you the economy mattered. Never mind the worst housing collapse we have seen so far and a recession that was plenty bad.

Obama was certainly not Superman and he fucked up plenty but he did a lot better than shitheads like you will ever admit.
If I am not mistaken, you are a racist cracker asshole.

      Good luck with that.

    • @*Eric – I don’t know why I would look for deeply stupid people. I prefer NOT attending Trumpsky campaign rallies. That’s where you find the people like yourself, who think Grape Nuts is a social disease.

The fact that you swallow the far-right propaganda marks you as a bigoted idiot; the fact that you believe Spanky’s incessant lying marks you as a gullible fool; the fact that you think repeating the lies will somehow magically transform them into truth marks you as brain-damaged.
