National Republicans, after doing a horrible job for years of appealing to young voters, is continuing it’s “young guns” program, which it says will bring about a “new generation” of “fresh ideas.”

But apparently the GOP is having trouble finding these new “young” GOP recruits and so, wisely, have expanded the definition of young to include the middle aged. GOP attorneys are experts at finding loopholes, and the task of redefining “young” must have presented them with little challenge.  They settled on: Young enough to suffer impotence, but not old enough for the Denny’s Blue Plate Special.

Take Steve Daines who the GOP just announced is part of the rehashing of the “Young Guns” program. He’ll turn 50 and will qualify an AARP card by Election Day of 2012.

The GOP’s expanded definition of young will likely help dems this cycle, as it makes the candidates in the “young guns” promotion seem disingenuous and, well, lame.  Dems have traditionally been better at mobilizing young voters, both in Montana and nationally, and their candidates don’t have to pretend to be young to do it.
