Rehberg Strikes with Repeated Robocalls

We all know robocalls are illegal in Montana.  The problem is, the press rarely cares.  Neither does Congressman Dennis Rehberg, who’s resorted to asking his daughter to do his dirty work for him.  Katie Rehberg left this message on a tipster’s home phone three times.  Another robocall is making the rounds from Crossroads GPS, Karl Rove’s secretive organization that has spent millions of dollars on false ads attacking Jon Tester.  They must be getting desperate…

POLITICO: Pro-Rehberg “Crossroads GPS” Group’s Bankroller also Funds Baucus

The week before last I learned that the Koch brothers are one of Max Baucus’ largest donors.   Today, this item appeared in Politico. It’s a profile on one of the right wing’s biggest backers.

Seems that Las Vegas billionaire Steve Wynn, who has given millions to Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS (the group that is running negative ads against Tester)  is also a major Baucus donor, Politico reports.

Wynn Resorts has also given $350,000 to the Republican Governors Association this election cycle. The RGA is the group that’s running ads against Steve Bullock.   He also gave half a million to the Republican Party’s “Leadership Committee” which focuses on electing Republicans to state legislatures and Tier B races.

The Crew that Brought You the Iraq War, Hanging out in Whitefish

We now know that Karl Rove, the slob who helped bring us the George Bush presidency, two wars at a trillion dollars a piece, a giant deficit, and a giant economic mess, was in the Flathead last week for at least two purposes.

First, he was at a Whitefish fundraiser.  The Huffington Post reports that he was raising money for Denny Rehberg and the Republican Party, with special guest Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.  McConnell is the imbecile who said recently in a FOXNews interview that it should not be a concern at all that 35 million cannot afford medical care, to the shock of the FOXNews interviewer Chris Wallace.

Click to see a larger version. The second thing Rove was doing was meeting with Ryan Zinke.  Zinke proudly tweeted about this meeting of the minds.  Zinke, who is coming off of a lopsided defeat in his campaign for lieutenant governor with Neil Livingstone (aka The Hooker Man), has started an organization called SOFA, for the purpose of attacking Obama over his management of the armed forces.  He evidently was meeting with Rove to discuss strategy and perhaps get money.

Zinke is claiming that Obama failed our country by revealing the identity of the Seal Team that got Bin Laden (not the names of the individual seals, but rather, revealing that it was Seal Team 6). There are other theories about this you’ll want to read.  Zinke also plans to try to convince Americans that Obama is taking personal credit for the raid.   Zinke, who was a member of Seal Team six many years ago, intends to raise money to conduct a “swiftboat” type of attack on Obama regarding this matter.

You should appreciate the irony that Zinke was rubbing elbows with George Bush’s mastermind in Whitefish. Rove was the man who micromanaged the publicity event aboard the aircraft carrier, nine years before the Iraq war was actually ended (by Obama, thankfully), where the dunce George Bush (talk about trying to take personal credit) landed in a fighter jet beneath a banner declaring, in large letters, “Mission Accomplished.

The mission was accomplished–by Obama in 2011, in Pakistan, when Bin Laden got wacked and dumped into the ocean.  So you gotta love the idea of Zinke and Rove scheming together to try to take down Obama.  For that matter, you gotta love Rehberg and McConnell being there two. Those two geniuses were among the herd that bought into the Iraq war, hook, line and sinker, and got so revved up about it that they basically were accusing anybody who opposed the war of “siding with the terrorists.”

The best news, I suppose, is that if Zinke’s new effort is anything like his campaign for governor, Obama has nothing to worry about.

Breakfast at Rasmussen’s

Insiders tell me that Congressman Dennis Rehberg enjoyed breakfast last month with the folks behind Rasmussen Reports, George Bush’s former polling operation often criticized for making “educated guesses.”

Rasmussen Reports is not Rehberg’s campaign polling firm.  So why would he spend precious campaign time meeting with a polling firm that isn’t his own?  Good question.

This week, a rival polling firm called Public Policy Polling released a poll showing Jon Tester with a five point lead over Dennis Rehberg.  The poll, which sampled  934 Montana voters over the course of three days, showed Rehberg with a dismal 39 percent approval rating.

Lo and behold, one day later, Rasmussen Reports announced it too had a poll hilariously showing Rehberg with a ten point lead.  Rasmussen’s poll only surveyed 450 voters on one day—May 2—the day after the Pubic Policy Poll was released. Again, Rasmussen Reports is known for exhibiting “a considerable bias toward Republican Candidates.”

This isn’t the first time rightwing polls showing Dennis Rehberg ahead have conveniently appeared in Montana’s Senate race.

  • On January 30, Karl Rove’s secret organization Crossroads released a poll showing Rehberg 11 points ahead of Tester.  The timing of the release was no coincidence: It gave a boost to Rehberg only hours before he announced pathetic 4th quarter fundraising numbers, where he pulled in half of what Tester raised.  Look closely and you’ll see that the Crossroads poll itself was actually conducted between January 9-10, a full three weeks before it was announced.
  • Another Rasmussen Poll showing Rehberg ahead was conveniently released just hours after Tester formally filed paperwork to become a Senate candidate on February 21.

Am I saying that Rehberg and his rightwing pollster buddies might have a deal to cook the books every now and then to create a perception of momentum for Rehberg?  Why yes, I am.

Worst Political Ad of the Week

The Billings Gazette is reporting today that the millionaires behind Karl Roves’ shadow organization are launching a $7 million attack ad campaign this week, presumably  to try to blot out the fraud perpetrated on Montana by one of their own, mega-millionaire Congressman Dennis Rehberg.

These millionaires are hoping voters won’t remember Rehberg’s record of squandering a $128 billion surplus during his first year in office, or how Rehberg voted to raise the debt limit 8 times.  Of course, the ad leaves out the biggest cause of the budget deficits, the Bush Tax Cuts and two wars that weren’t paid for, which of course Rehberg eagerly supported.

It’s an attempt to hide the ridiculous fraud Rehberg perpetrated on voters when he announced in the press that he was “swearing off earmarks.” It turns that two weeks after Rehberg got on the wagon and gave up earmarks, another news item quietly broke (or, at least, it was quiet in Montana). It was that the conservative group Citizens Against Government Waste had come out with its annual “Pig Book”, which ranks members of Congress based on how wasteful they are with taxpayer money, based on the number of earmarks they write.

And who do you think the Pig Book ranked as Number One Pig in Congress? You got it, Denny Rehberg, with the most earmarks (88) for fiscal year 2010 in the entire House of Representatives.  Only the Flathead Beacon had the integrity to run the story.

The facts: Rehberg is such a fraud he asked for stimulus funding after voting against it, and he even cut ribbons on stimulus-funded projects. And Montana farmer Jon Tester is the only Senate Democrat who voted against the bailout of Wall Street, the bailout of the U.S. auto industry, and the bailout of Greece.  A full fact check on the ad is available online which you should definitely read, because Rehberg’s campaign is getting a real reputation for lying.
