Whitefish TEA Partier: True Christians Needn’t Obey Law

TEA Party Republican Tim Baldwin has authored a book to explain his belief that Christian people need not submit to secular laws.  Baldwin is a self-styled bible fanatic and lawyer that specializing in using the bible to find loopholes that allow True Believers to break the law.  You need simply believe that the government is evil to do so.

If you believe that parking meters are a tyrannical conspiracy theory to prevent Christian people from getting a good parking space–you need not feed them.  If you believe parking tickets are the faceless hand of government’s way of depriving the Godly of funds they were surely going to donate to orphanages–you need not pay.  If you believe stem cell research is murder–you need not obey the government that prohibits murdering the scientists behind it.

Baldwin explains his unique beliefs on the Alex Jones Show.  Jones is an apocalyptic conspiracy theorist on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s hate watch list.

The entire interview can be seen below.  Baldwin is running for the Democratic-leaning Whitefish house seat formerly held by TEA Party Republican Derek Skees.  Baldwin will face either Tom Muri or Ed Lieser depending on who wins the Democratic primary for this race.

Will Skees Run in Whitefish?

It’s hard to imagine that TEA Party Republican Derek Skees (R-Whitefish Kalispell) could get reelected in House District 4, a moderate democratic district–especially with Tom Muri in the race (Muri doesn’t appear to have a website yet).  The 2010 voter electorate was a very conservative one that created one-time anomalies that swept tea party candidates into office. There are rumors that Bill Beck will be running for Ryan Zinke’s, now that Zinke is running for Lte. Governor. That will leave a more conservative seat in Kalispell that Skees could potentially run in.

Recently,  though, several sources  tipped off this blog that Derek Skees may be running for State Auditor.

(Derek, as you read the blog you’re welcome to weigh in should you care to comment on this.)

The Montana State Auditor is in charge of regulating all insurance and securities activities in the state to protect consumers and crack down on fraud and abuse. Auditor Monica Lindeen has said in a Lee Newspaper story she will seek a second term.

That would be an interesting race.   On the one hand Lindeen would probably relish a super-right opponent as the TEA party has a bad name nowadays.

On the other hand it would be an entirely federalized race that will probably be all about federal health care reform, which is not necessarily the type of race a Democrat wants to run.

Overall, however, nobody would be surprised to hear that Skees is contemplating a statewide run. He’s  been trying to make himself into a national figure in the ultra-right wing crowd.

Right now, tribal flags fly at the capitol on a regular basis.  Perhaps we will see a confederate flag flying over the auditor’s office in the future.

Whitefish Leader to Challenge TEA Party Poster Boy Derek Skees

Good news for democrats today from the Whitefish Pilot.  A Whitefish attorney, city council member, and judge has announced he will run for the Whitefish House seat (HD 4) currently held by TEA party Republican Rep. Derek Skees, (R-Whitefish Kalispell.)

Kudos to Mr. Tom Muri, who has lived in Whitefish for more than 45 years, for stepping up to the plate to better represent the people of Whitefish.  He also has a 20-year military career that includes serving as a judge-advocate officer for the Navy.

The extreme and wacky nature of the 2011 Legislative session is expected to attract other strong candidates to follow Muri’s lead and step up to the plate and run for these seats.
